The Governors have appointed ANDREW FLECK as the successor to Christopher Hirst as Headmaster of Sedbergh School with effect from September 2010. Aged 46, Andrew has for the past six years been Headmaster of Ashville College, Harrogate. In a short space of time his impact there has been widely recognized. Before Ashville, Andrew was Deputy Headmaster of St. Bede’s School, East Sussex at a time when the school rose to national prominence. He was previously Head of Geography and a Housemaster at Hurstpierpoint College, West Sussex. Andrew, a boarder himself from the age of seven, was educated at Marlborough College and then read Geology at Nottingham University and subsequently gained an MA from Sussex University. Andrew is an ‘outdoor’ man and amongst his many exploits, he has canoed around Newfoundland and Japan. He and his family now sail in the Shetlands. He is married to Anne and has twin eleven year old daughters, Katherine and Nicola. The Chairman of the OS Committee, Jan Van Der Velde (L77-82), was involved in the final appointment process, at the invitation of the Governors. |
